Digital infographic about the importance and protection of peatlands
What is your work about?
Many people think of peatlands as wet, scary or even dangerous places - and they're not wrong. But the real danger only develops when they disappear.
As a unique ecosystem and huge carbon reservoir, they play a significant role in climate protection. But more than 90 per cent of peatlands in Germany have already been destroyed by drainage. In this damaged state, they release large amounts of greenhouse gases, which makes them extremely dangerous for the climate.
So the protection of peatlands and the restoration of areas that have already been destroyed are becoming more and more important.
With my project, I want to draw attention to this issue and explain the important role of peatlands in climate protection.
I use interactive infographics on a website to give an insight into the topic and provide the necessary information to raise awareness of the importance of peatland protection.
