Emilia
Schulz
If you think of animation then you imagine funny and entertaining stories. Emilia goes even beyond that: She analyzes the impact in what she perceives in choice of color, gestures and facial expressions and symbolism; to therefore apply the appropriated knowledge to create her own meaningful and in depth work. She creates animations with thrilling and multifaceted narrative, which not rarely touch on difficult parts of our society.
Escape the Pattern
Animation Transitioning into the Unexpected (Reel)
What is your work about?
In my last semester I revised one more time everything I’ve learned so far and experiment with different animation techniques. By combining 2d-frame-by-frame animation with motion graphics and stop motion I create fluid transition between the sequences. Everything holds some symbolism, in some instances more and in some less.
What inspired you the most regarding your project?
Definitely my semester abroad in Kyoto, Japan. I’ve got to know and experienced people and the culture without the western filter, but as it is. My life there reshaped my impressions on all animation industries globally. The many encounters, where I spoke to all the nice people, influenced me in my approach to animation projects, which brought me to take on “Escape The Pattern” from a different starting point. This project reflects my skills, so I can come back to my “palette” when working on coming projects.
