things of time
An archive of the things that truly matter to us.
What is your work about?
With our project „things of time," we document the objects that people from all over Germany consider important or once considered important. How much can seemingly mundane items tell about a life story?
The result is a unique archive that shows how values and priorities differ or resemble across generations.
We have designed a website for participation and to explore previous submissions, created a catalog of all objects, and conceptualized a small exhibition that makes individual stories tangible while simultaneously presenting the bigger picture. We aim to encourage conversations with family members, friends, or even strangers.
How have you grown through your process?
Reading personal stories and conducting interviews with people has often given us a new perspective on our own lives. Engaging in conversations with our own families has also shown us how important these discussions are. We have come to know our family members in a completely different way, outside of the familiar "roles" we knew them in.
How could the project continue?
Our project doesn't end with Parcours. The collection of things is like a time capsule of people and their stories. What will be important in 10, 15, or even 20 years? We want to continue developing the project in the future to possibly assess the results on a larger scale.
