Silence
A narrative short film about unspoken feelings amidst toxic notions of masculinity.
What is your project about?
My short film is about the flawed view that masculinity must be proven by not showing weakness and the missed opportunity to be a good role model. The story takes place during a dinner where both characters hide their true emotions.
What inspired you in particular?
I was inspired by the impact of such beliefs. Men often find it difficult to talk about their problems, which can lead to emotional exclusion and depression.
How did you grow during the process?
During the process, I grew in my ability to convey complex emotional topics in a short space of time. The combination of live-action and animated scenes helped to portray the inner conflicts.
Were there challenges you had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges was balancing the visible and invisible pain of the characters and conveying their demeanor in a believable way.
How could the project continue / develop further?
I've thought of additional scenarios where similar views of masculinity are prevalent, which I could explore in future projects.
