A narrative short film about dealing with people suffering from dementia
What is your work about?
In my narrative short film, I explore how a compassionate and respectful approach towards people with dementia can look like. Considering the 1.8 million affected individuals in Germany, the film underscores the significance of this issue. I aim to demonstrate that these individuals should be approached in a needs-oriented, appreciative, and validating manner, as they remain full-fledged human beings despite their condition.
What particularly moved or inspired you to this project?
I have been familiar with the topic for a long time due to the dementia of my two grandmothers. I wanted to create a narrative short film addressing a subject that is personally significant to me. Additionally, dementia is often portrayed in a deficit-oriented manner in the media. With my film, I aim to present a different perspective and emphasize the individuals behind the condition.
Were there specific challenges you overcame?
Managing everything until the day of shooting, ensuring everything was in place from organizing the actors, securing the shooting location, to developing a script and storyboard.
