Louis is a cheerful designer with a critical eye for typography. Shaped by training in a print shop, he has a special relationship with the tactile nature of print products. His studies have given him the opportunity to experiment and grow beyond his limits. He finds inspiration mainly in everyday life and travel — it's the details that make the difference.
The things of times
An archive of the things that truly matter.
What is your work about?
With our project "zeug der zeit," we document the objects that are important to people or once were. How much can seemingly mundane objects tell about a life story?
The result is a unique archive that shows how different generations differ in their values and priorities and what connects them. With a book, we tell the stories of the objects through a curated selection; both in the big and small ways. Our project thrives on participation, and every new object expands the picture we present with our collection. To facilitate this, we created a website for participation, where visitors can also get an overview of the objects collected so far. We want to encourage people to engage in conversations with their family members, friends, or even strangers.
What have you gained from your process?
Reading personal stories and conducting interviews with people often gave us a new perspective on our own lives. Talking to our own families also made us realize the importance of these conversations. We got to know our family members in a completely different way, beyond the familiar "roles" we knew them in.
How could the project continue?
Our project does not end with Parcours. The collection of objects is like a time capsule of people and their stories. What will be important in 10, 15, or even 20 years? We want to continue developing the project in the future to possibly evaluate the results on a larger scale.
