Meo
Quintini
Meo studied at the MSD with a focus on illustration and tries to work illustratively on topics that also concern them in their everyday life or that are (politically) important to Meo. For some time now, Meo has been particularly interested in comic-work and is curious to explore the freedoms of this medium even further. Nothing is more important for persistence than their own interest and enjoyment of the project.
(a)romantic – sorry, what?
a comic about an aromantic person.
What is your work about?
I explore the topic of aromanticism, i.e. what it's like when people feel no (or only little) romantic attraction to other people or cannot (hardly) fall in love. In comic form, the book looks at how growing up or living as an aromantic person can look like in a world where romantic love is often the focus.
What in particular moved or inspired you to create this project?
Sorry, what? is a common first reaction to the topic of aromanticism. Many people have never heard of it, and there is hardly any aromantic representation. I want to fill a gap with my project and create a comic that I myself would have wanted a few years ago.
Were there any particular challenges that you overcame?
Aromanticism is a very complex subject and can be experienced very differently by people. It is therefore very important to understand my comic as a singular narrative that can speak for some aromantic people, but by no means for everyone. It was also difficult to break down such a complex topic into a few points that are at the heart of my work.
