Pauline
Nögel
Because of her love of computers and the aesthetic world of early 3D graphics, Pauline grew fond of 3D animation during her studies. She is particularly fascinated by the possibility of being able to design something that looks realistic but only has to adhere to physical rules to a limited extent. This enthusiasm is reflected in her work in which she likes to combine emotionality with absurdity.
Bliss
An animated short film about the supposed longevity of media in digital space
What is your project about?
In everyday life you tend to forget that digital data and memories are always tied to a physical medium. In my film I explored the fictional szenario of what happens to a person's personal data when its storage medium, in this case an old computer, is no longer maintained and preserved.
What inspired you in particular?
Probably my dad's gigantic digital photo archive, which he constantly updates, and thereby my inherited urge to document. In a way, we all collect our own little (or large) personal pool of data, in which we feel at home. It forms a constant that reflects our (digital) identity. However, given the rapid pace of technological advancements, it proves to be rather fragile.
Were there challenges you had to overcome?
Over time, it became increasingly difficult for me to distinguish between intentional and unintentional glitches on my computer.
