Sarah's fascination with all kinds of things influences her various works. Be it the starry sky or stories told by other authors. Something that can never be missing for too long though is variety. That is why travelling is one of her biggest sources of inspiration, which also brought her lots of helpful impressions for this project!
Her biggest strengths are her great enthusiasm and motivation to learn new things. That way, she keeps refining her emotional and character-based storytelling.
A Little Mermaid's Journey
Visual Development Project for a Video Game
What inspired you in particular?
The fairy tale of the little mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen has always been one of my favourites and what fascinated me the most was the mermaids captivation with the human world. She's always been more of an adventurer to me, than a naive girl who gave up her voice for a crush. That's where I got the idea to remove the romance from from the tale and it resulted in the story about the aromantic mermaid, who finds her sense of belonging in platonic love instead.
How did you grow during the process?
I've worked on different character design commissions before, but this is the first time I could fully concentrate on a bigger VisDev project and prove what I can actually do.
How could the project continue / develop further?
I've already have another VisDev commission waiting for me, but I'd love to keep working on this project in my free time. Since I know how important it is to follow your own personal projects, I'd like to use the opportunity for that.
